    Variations and Substitutions

    • One of my favorite variations is to add some dried or fresh basil or a dollop of pesto sauce to give it an Italian flair.
    • To boost the vegetable content, consider adding diced carrots, celery, or bell peppers to the soup.
    • Two other versions worth trying include using Palmini noodles instead of pasta for a gluten-free option and substituting ground turkey for beef, resulting in a delightful dish with just 2 Weight Watchers points.

Tips and Tricks for making Lasagna Soup

    1. For added depth of flavor, sauté the onions and garlic until golden brown before adding the other ingredients.
    2. Opt for lean meat and season it with salt, pepper, and Italian herbs or oregano for enhanced flavor.
    3. Use unsweetened tomato juice or pasta sauce. If you feel it needs a touch of sweetness, add a dash of Stevia.
    4. Cook the pasta until slightly overdone to help thicken the soup slightly.
    5. For a creamier texture, blend a portion of the soup before serving, then stir it back into the pot. This creates a velvety consistency without adding extra calories. When freezing, store the soup in an airtight container and thaw it in the microwave.

Can I put my lasagna together ahead of time? ›

How long should I cook my lasagna? ›

How Long to Cook Lasagna. In an oven preheated to 375 degrees F, this homemade lasagna should be perfectly baked in about 50 minutes (30-40 minutes covered, 5-10 minutes uncovered).

What happens if you boil no-boil lasagna noodles? ›

Yes, you can absolutely boil your lasagna noodles – even the oven-ready type. I prefer to par-boil (partially boil) oven-ready dried noodles for lasagna for 3-5 minutes before they become “al dente”. Al dente is an Italian term that literally means 'to the tooth'.

What is a good substitute for lasagna noodles? ›

When it comes to keto lasagna, there a many different foods you can use to substitute for real lasagna noodles. Some people use zucchini noodles (slices) or cabbage. I've even seen people use fathead dough rolled out super thin, baked and then used as a keto lasagna noodle.

What do Italians use instead of ricotta in lasagna? ›

In Italian cuisine, ricotta cheese is a popular ingredient in many dishes, but when it's not available, Italians may substitute it with other soft cheeses like mascarpone, stracchino, or crescenza. These cheeses offer a similar creamy texture and mild flavor to ricotta.

What happens if you don't add egg to ricotta for lasagna? ›

Adding egg to ricotta cheese helps to bind the cheese for lasagna so that it doesn't ooze out of the casserole when you cut it. Basically, the egg helps all the cheesy goodness stay intact. So what happens if you don't put eggs in your lasagna? It'll just be a bit runnier, but omitting the egg won't affect the taste.

Which is better, cottage cheese or ricotta in lasagna? ›

I use both; cottage cheese is healthier and ricotta is creamier, so you get the best of both worlds by using both of these cheeses in your lasagna.

Can I put lasagna together and bake it the next day? ›

Lasagna is the kind of food that can keep a family fed for many nights in a row, happily. But it has other perks, too: namely, that you can prepare the whole thing in advance, and store it in the fridge overnight—ready to pop in the oven an hour or so before dinner (just before the kids start to whine).

How long does lasagna last in the fridge? ›

Cooked lasagna lasts 3 to 5 days in the fridge and up to 3 months in the freezer. Now you can go ahead and whip up a double batch of our top lasagna recipes. Enjoy those leftovers!

How long should you let lasagna rest after taking it out of the oven? ›

When the lasagna is ready it is difficult to resist the temptation to immediately eat it, but be careful because even in this case you have to be a little patient. Wait for your lasagna to rest for about 20 minutes once it is baked, in this way it will not fall apart when cut.

How long should lasagna sit out before baking? ›

The lasagna needs at least 5 hours to chill and let the sauce soften the noodles, but you can definitely make it the night before (even 3 days before) and bake it when you need it. Want your own freezer lasagna? Wrap it up in foil once you assemble it, no need to bake it beforehand.

Can you use lasagne sheets without boiling? ›

Regular dry lasagne sheets can be used without pre-cooking but your lasagna will require a longer cooking time and much more liquid because the dry pasta will absorb a lot of the sauce when cooking. Do fresh lasagna noodles need to be precooked? no.

Can I use dry lasagne sheets instead of fresh? ›

Fresh pasta sheets cook faster. If you can't find fresh pasta sheets, you can use dried pasta sheets. To use dried pasta sheets in lasagne, cook the lasagne for 10-15 minutes longer than fresh sheets. If your lasagne is looking too brown on top, you can cover it with foil for this extra cooking time.
