(The following write-up is original content and is copyright 2024 The Jeopardy! Fan. It may not be copied without linked attribution back to this page.)

English writer D.H. Lawrence, active in the 1910s and 1920s, counted among his most well-known novels 1913’s Sons and Lovers, 1920’s Women in Love (the sequel to 1915’s The Rainbow), and, most famously, 1928’s Lady Chatterly’s Lover. His writing was often very famously the subject of censorship trials due to what was perceived at the time as inappropriate portrayals of sexuality and his use of profanity.

I suspect that this Final will play on the slightly more difficult side, as the necessary logic jump from “love” to Lawrence, while there, isn’t immediately obvious—with the only other entry point being what many would probably see as Lawrence’s third- or fourth-best-known work.

Andy’s Thoughts:

  • While it is true that the Mars bar in the rest of the world is marketed as Milky Way in the United States, “Milky Way” is the only correct response to that clue as written. Note that the clue specifically said “malted dairy product” and “1924”; there was no malted dairy product called Mars, and the Mars bar was not sold in the rest of the world under that name until 1932. The judges were correct to rule against Monica, as Monica’s response did not fit all of the constraints of the clue.
  • Today’s box score will be linked to when posted by the show.

Final Jeopardy! wagering suggestions:

(Scores: Neilesh $26,100 Monica $7,600 Sean $5,200)

Neilesh: Bet no more than $10,899. (Actual bet: $3,000)

Sean: If Monica covers and gets Final Jeopardy incorrect, she falls to $4,799. Bet no more than $400. (Actual bet: $2,401)

Monica: Standard cover bet over Sean is $2,801. (Actual bet: $5,000)
